Fashion dictionary on Monday - jabot
In het modewoordenboek vandaag: jabot.
- jabot: ruches aan de voorkant van een hemd (of een ander kledingstuk) als versiering, startend aan de nek en van daaruit naar beneden vallend. Een echte jabot wordt vastgemaakt rond de nek of vastgespeld aan de neklijn en hangt naar beneden (het is dus geen onderdeel van het kledingstuk). Tegenwoordig worden jabots ook geïntegreerd in kledingstukken - al is het dan natuurlijk geen échte jabot. Maar het uitzicht blijft hetzelfde. Ontstaan in de 17-18de eeuw en toen gedragen door mannen. Nu is het eerder populair in vrouwenkleding.

- jabot: ruffles decorating the front of a shirt (or another clothing item), starting at the neckline and falling down. A real jabot is attached to a neckband or pinned at the neckline (so it's not integrated in the piece of clothing). Nowadays jabots are also integrated in pieces of clothing - although those are not real jabots. But it looks rather the same. Jabots originated in the 17th - 18th century and were worn by men back then. Now they are more popular in women's clothing.
