This week a friendly discussion started on Twitter, concerning makeup. A lot of men claim they don't like makeup and prefer a natural look. That resulted in the following tweets "A woman is at her most beautiful and vulnerable in the morning 'without'.", followed by "Those are the facts. Read: only then you really know her.". Of course then I had to ask the man in question whether when walking on the street he only looked at women with a natural look and without makeup. Since 140 characters are too limited to give a real opinion, the discussion ended in a blogpost by that man (you can read it here in Dutch). Bottom line of his blogpost: when men are honest they do prefer women who take care of themselves and wear a little bit of makeup, but their character is much more important than their looks. I can only be happy when hearing that, but I still have some comments regarding the makeup discussion. In the rest of this post you can read my answer.

Zie jij het verschil?
What is the relation between haute couture and prêt-a-porter? The first one makes you think of priceless luxury, made to measure and craftmaschip, the second one feels more commonplace. But is this still true? Nowadays techniques and materials that were traditionally specific to haute couture are also used in prêt-à-porter. The distinction is a lot less clear and both genres influence each other. Of course there still is a difference but it's sometimes hard to tell just looking at a garment. The exhibition Haute-à-Porter takes this as a staring point to explore the differences and similatities and shows the most exquisite garments. For fashionistas it's a dream to discover all these beautiful clothes in a splendid scenography. Even if fashion isn't your main interest, you'll be captured by the creations. The exhibition runs till September 11th. If you haven't been yet, you simply must go. Or do like I did and revisit the exhibition to let everything sink in.
Can you spot the difference? In the rest of this post you can test if you spot the difference between haute couture and prêt-à-porter. Of course this is way harder in pictures but when visiting the exhibition you'll see it's very hard in reality too. At the bottom you will find the description of the items on the pictures based on the numbers in the caption.

Knokke is still thé Belgian coastal town for those who do not only want sun, sea and beach but also a healthy dose of fashion and events. Every summer pop-ups appear next to well established addresses and events. Like every summer there is of course the Nacht van het Zoute, but there are also lots of new things to do, like culinary workshops by Miele with a sea view in the BMW Beach Lounge and a real butterfly garden. In the rest of this blogpost you can find more information about some addresses and events.
