Issey Miyake heeft Antwerpen gekozen om zijn eerste winkel in België te openen. Alle lijnen van de ontwerper zijn er te verkrijgen, alsook zijn legendarische parfums. In de rest van de blogpost kan je meer lezen over de ontwerper en de nieuwe winkel.
Issey Miyake has chosen Antwerp as the location of his first Belgian store. All clothing lines will be available in the new store, and also his legendary perfumes will be sold there. In the rest of this blogpost you can read more about the designer and the new store.

The Japanese designer, who was born in 1938, presented his first collection named Poems of cloth and stone in 1963. In 1970 he established the Miyake Design Studio. Issey Miyake is mostly known for his innovative materials, techniques and designs with a lot of attention for textures. Traditional and modern techniques go hand in hand in his designs.

During the end of the 80's he started experimenting with techniques for pleats. His intention was to create elegant clothes that moved and that were at the same time practical to wear and care for. In 1993 this resulted in the launch of the clothing line Pleats Please Issey Miyake. Technology, research and experimenting are still essential in the different Issey Miyake clothing lines.

De nieuwe winkel in het historische centrum van Antwerpen combineert ook oud en nieuw. Hij is gelegen in een geklasseerd gebouw uit de 16de eeuw ('Den Cleynen en den Grooten Biecorff') rond een charmante binnenplaats - een van de mooiste plekjes in Antwerpen naar mijn mening. Het interieur is dan weer ingetogen modern: helder en ruim met glazen wanden (met uitzicht op de binnenplaats) en op maat gemaakte meubels vervaardigd in wit beton en gezandstraald glas. De verlichting is ontworpen door Zumtobel en verandert op subtiele wijze in de ruimte volgens de bewegingen van de klant en creëert op die manier een eigen sfeer.
The new store in the historical center of Antwerp also combines old and new. Located within a beautiful classified building of the 16th century ('Den Cleynen en den Grooten Biecorff'), the store is wrapped around a charming and tranquil courtyard - one of the most beautiful places in Antwerp according to me. The interior is subdued and modern: clean and airy with large glass walls (facing the courtyard) and with bespoke furniture made in white concrete and sand blasted glass. The lighting is designed by Zumtobel and subtly changes within the space according to the movements of the customers, creating a luminous ambiance.

MIYAKE).
With an area of 300m² the new space will carry the different lines of the brand (ISSEY MIYAKE, ISSEY MIYAKE MEN, PLEATS PLEASE ISSEY MIYAKE, 132 5. ISSEY MIYAKE, HOMME PLISSÉ ISSEY MIYAKE, CAULIFLOWER, BAO BAO ISSEY MIYAKE).
