Designer to watch: Nathalie Fordeyn

Tijdens Paris Fashion Week ging ik de collectie van jonge ontwerpster Nathalie Fordeyn bekijken op de beurs Tranoï. In deze blogpost kan je een deel van haar ontwerpen ontdekken - die ik zelf ook mocht passen. De volledige collectie én een webshop vind je op www.nathaliefordeyn.com. De ontwerpen houden het midden tussen minimalisme en surrealisme. Nathalie heeft veel aandacht voor de materialen en werkt graag met alcantara, een superzacht alternatief voor suède. Aandacht voor details in prints, speciale toetsen zoals stroken zijde die op een top gestikt worden en onverwachte volumes, tillen haar collectie naar een hoger niveau - terwijl het geheel heel jong en draagbaar blijft (en betaalbaar voor echte designerstukken).

During Paris Fashion Week I discovered the collection of young designer Nathalie Fordeyn at the Tranoï fair. In this blogpost you can see some of her designs. The full collection ánd an online store are at www.nathaliefordeyn.com. Her designs are a mix of minimalism and surrealism. Nathalie pays a lot of attention to the materials she uses and loves working with alcantara, an incredibly soft alternative for suede. Attention to details in prints, special touches such as strips of silk printed fabric on a top and unexpected volumes, elevate her collection to a higher level while the collection still remains young and wearable (and affordable for real designer pieces).

Het is niet de evident om kleren te passen en fotograferen op Tranoï en het was een beetje improviseren - als een echte modeblogger. Ik denk dat het resultaat - gezien de omstandigheden - toch nog geslaagd is. Een extra bedankje voor mijn geduldige fotograaf die dag. Het vroeg een 250-tal foto's om tot dit resultaat te komen.

The goal of Tranoï isn't really to try on and photograph clothes so we had to improvise a bit - true fashion blogger style. But all things considered I think we made it work! An extra thanks to my patient photographer that day. I took about 250 pictures to get this result.

Nathalie Fordeyn is een 28 jaar oude Belgisch-Thaise ontwerpster die is geboren en opgegroeid in Thailand. Ze studeerde eerst aan de University of Dundee, en daarna aan de modeafdeling van de Koninklijke Academie voor Schone Kunsten in Antwerpen, waar ze in 2010 afstudeerde. Als ontwerpster, werkte ze al voor internationaal gerenommeerde ontwerpers zoals Diane von Furstenberg, John Galliano en Sonia Rykiel. Ze startte haar eigen label in 2014.

Nathalie Fordeyn is a 28 years old Belgian-Thai designer who was born and raised in Thailand. She first studied at the University of Dundee, and then the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Antwerp in Fashion design, where she graduated in 2010. As a designer, she has worked for famous international designers as Diane von Furstenberg, John Galliano and Sonia Rykiel. She started her own brand in 2014.

Deze collectie is 'Camouflage' genaamd. 'Puppets', 'Paper people', 'A drummer in a tree' zijn de poëtische namen van de vorige collecties van Nathalie. De lente/zomer-collectie van 2015 werd geïnspireerd door de betekenis van camouflage in de moderne maatschappij, en gaat uit een soort omhulsel dat mensen beschermt in de 'urban jungle'. Dierenprints die digitaal bewerkt en vervormd zijn worden op de stoffen gedrukt om een illusie te creëren zoals ook een kameleon doet.

This collection is called 'Camouflage'. 'Puppets', 'Paper people', 'A drummer in a tree', titles of previous collections are certainly not lacking of poetry and imagination. The Spring-Summer 2015 collection was inspired by the strong meaning of camouflage, kind of a shell that protects humans in the urban jungle. Animal prints are digitally transformed and graved & stamped on the precious fabrics to create an illusion and to play the role of a chameleon.

De zijden rok op bovenstaande foto's is één van mijn favoriete stukken om te dragen (zeker in combinatie met het topje) - zo comfortabel dat je bijna niet voelt dat je hem aanhebt.

The silk skirt on the pictures above is one of my favourite pieces (especially combined with the top) - it is so comfortable that you can't even feel you are wearing it.

De kernwaarden van het label zijn: comfort en kwaliteit. De stichtster is erg begaan met het milieu. Alle leveranciers en producenten moeten de mensenrechten, de planeet en het klimaat respecteren. Ze vindt dat dat een essentieel onderdeel is van de moderne mode-industrie.

The label’s key principles are comfort and quality. The founder is truly concerned with the environmental issues. All suppliers and producers respect human rights, the planet and the climate. She thinks that's an essential part of the modern fashion industry.
