Lucy Jo moved from Minnesota to NY to make it as a fashion designer but luck isn't on her side. That's why she agrees to Wyatt's proposal. With the help of a personal coach, high fashion, the best spa treatments, lessons in manners and speech (this time not "The rain in Spain stays mainly in the plain." but "The snow in Aspen puts Gstaad's to shame.") she slowly transforms into one of the NY elite. Wyatt promises her that she will be able to work with a famous fashion designer after the lessons. But actually he has a secret agenda. He is tired to only live upon the interest of his money and wants a goal in life. Since he is an antropologist, he decides to write a book about the experiment involving Lucy Jo. But then he develops feelings for her and everything becomes very complicated. Will Lucy Jo become the new fashion wonder and will Wyatt acknowledge his feelings?

Lucy Jo verhuisde van Minnesota naar NY om het te maken als modeontwerpster maar heeft het geluk niet aan haar kant. Daarom stemt ze ten einde raad in met het voorstel van Wyatt. Met de hulp van een personal trainer, haute couture, wellness-behandelingen, etiquette- en spraaklessen (deze keer niet "The rain in Spain stays mainly in the plain." maar wel "The snow in Aspen puts Gstaad's to shame.") verandert ze langzaamaan in één van de New Yorkse elite. Wyatt belooft haar dat ze na de lessen aan de slag kan gaan bij een bekende modeontwerper, maar heeft eigenlijk een geheime agenda. Hij is het wat beu enkel te rentenieren en wil een doel in zijn leven. Aangezien hij antropoloog is van opleiding, besluit hij een boek schrijven over het experiment. Maar dan komen er gevoelens bij kijken en lijkt alles niet zo simpel te zijn. Wordt Lucy Jo wel de nieuwste modesensatie en erkent Wyatt zijn gevoelens voor haar?

The Overnight Socialite retells a classic tale in a new and original way. Fashion lovers can test their knowledge with Eloise's mini-quiz, there is also a 'dressnapping' and some vicious behaviour by a super mode. All these ingedrients add a good dose of humour. I have read the book a few times already and can truly recommend it.

The Overnight Socialite brengt een klassieker op een originele manier. Modeliefhebbers kunnen hun modekennis testen met de miniquiz van Eloise, verder staat er een 'dressnapping' op het menu en de giftige streken van hét topmodel van het moment zorgen voor de nodige humor. Ik heb het boek al een paar keer herlezen en vind het nog steeds super: een echte aanrader.
