A trip to Cologne with Thalys - part 3: the shop addresses and the festival Le Bloc

Wie deze zomer nog een fashionable citytripje plant, kan bv. met de Thalys naar Keulen. In de 'Belgisches Viertel' van deze Duitse stad, vind je heel diverse winkeltjes. Jaarlijks vindt er in juni het festival Le Bloc plaats en is het feest met kortingen, drankjes, parades, optredens...De meeste winkels blijven zelfs open tot middernacht. Tijd genoeg dus om een leuke outfit bij elkaar te shoppen. Wat me persoonlijk opviel was de grote verscheidenheid aan winkeltjes: goudsmeden liggen er naast alternatieve shops, boetiekjes met designerstuks, gadgetwinkeltjes en taartenwinkels. Over het algemeen zijn de collecties wat meer edgy, creatief en alternatief - wat perfect past bij het imago van de Belgische wijk die bekend staat als kunstenaarskwartier. Verwacht geen mainstream hier.

If you are still planning a fashionable citytrip this summer, you can visit Cologne by Thalys. In the 'Belgisches Viertel' of this German city there is a great variety of shops. Each year the festival Le Bloc takes place in June. It is a real party then with reductions, drinks, parades and acts...Most stores are opened until midnight. So you have more than enough time to find a great outfit. What I noticed is that there is a great variety of stores: goldsmiths offer their designs next to alternative stores, designer boutiquesn, gadget stores and bakeries. Overall the stores are a little bit edgy, creative and alternative - all in line with the image of the Belgian quarter that is know as the artist quarter. Don't expect anything mainstream here.

1. Simon und Renoldi
Deze concept store verkoopt kleding, accessoires, boeken, cosmetica, kunst...en is het ontdekken meer dan waard. Naast onder andere Helmut Lang, Paul & Joe Sister en MW by Matthew Williamson vind je er ook minder bekende namen zoals ODEEH, iheart en Liev (de collectie van één van de zaakvoerders van de boetiek)... Voor wie niet kan wachten, is er ook een online-shop. Ik vond er een prachtig jurkje van Helmut Lang met zeepaardjes in jacquard. http://www.simonundrenoldi.com 

This concept store sells clothes, accessories, books, cosmetics, art...and is worth a visit. Besides well known names such as Helmut Lang, Paul & Joe Sister and MW by Matthew Williamson, you can also find some lesser known brands in this boutique such as ODEEH, iheart and Liev (the collection of one of the shop owners)... 2. L'Éphémère
Wanneer je deze winkel binnengaat, waan je je even in Parijs in plaats van in Keulen. Je vindt er kleding van het Franse merk Sessùn en allerlei leuke accessoires. Mijn reispartner kocht hier een broek en een sjaal. http://lephemere.de/

3. ZES Die Label WG
Jammer genoeg is deze outlet ondertussen gesloten. Hier vond je designermerken aan 50 tot 70% korting. De items komen uit verschillende boetieks (waaronder Simon und Renoldi - zie nummer 1!). 4. Marcus Götten - Goldschmiedemeister
In de boetiek van Marcus Götten vind je zijn eigen creaties en die van anderen. Ik spotte er deze ring van Kerstin Kavalirek: een haakwerkje dat verzilverd is met twee peridot-stenen. Marcus is heel vriendelijk en geeft een deskundige uitleg. http://www.m-argentum.de en http://www.feinwerkk.de/

In the boutique of Marcus Götten you can find both his own creations and those of others. I spotted this ring by Kerstin Kavalirek: a crocheted ring dipped in silver adorned with two peridot-stones. Tijdens Le Bloc was er ook een modeshow, die we jammer genoeg misten. Om de Belgische wijk eer aan te doen, werd er niet alleen lokaal talent getoond, maar ook creaties van een Belgische ontwerper nl. Cedric Jacquemyn.

During the festival Le Bloc there was also a fashion show that sadly we missed. To honor the name of the Belgian quarter, not only local talent participated, also Belgian designer Cedric Jacquemyn showed his creations.

Toerisme Vlaanderen wilde tijdens Le Bloc de Vlaamse mode in de kijker plaatsen, meer bepaald  Antwerpen en Brussel werden gepromoot als modebestemmingen. Zo werden in de deelnemende boetieken onder meer informatieve postkaartjes over mode in Brussel en Antwerpen verdeeld. Wie iets kocht, ontving een puntzakje dat op de Toerisme Vlaanderen stand gratis gevuld werd met frietjes.

Tourism Flanders wanted to put the focus on Flemisch fashion during Le Bloc, namely Antwerp and Brussel were promoted as shopping city. In participating boutiques postcards were distributed. Who bought something received a bag that could be filled with Belgian fries at the stand of Tourism Flanders.
